Today the students and I reviewed a multiplication strategy that we began working on before the break. I call this strategy the "break-apart" strategy. It has students break apart 2-digit or 3-digit numbers into something easier to work with - usually multiples of 10 or 100. It works like this:

34 x 7 =

Multiply:
30 x 7 = 210
4 x 7 = 28

34 x 7 = (210+28)
34 x 7 = 238

We will continue to work on this strategy, as well as take a look at using doubling/halving next week. Students also completed their Whole Numbers retest today. I will send home the new grades on Monday.

In Language Arts today we worked on something that we haven't done in a while - our Fri-Yay Reflections! Check out the "Fri-Yay Reflections" under "Links" to read students' reflections on the week and on their learning.

We also had the opportunity to visit both Mrs. Drover and Mr. Rutledge's Science Fairs today. On Monday we will be going to look at the projects completed in Mrs. McKinley's Grade 3 class. Students will also be able to visit the School Fair on Wednesday, March 15th. I will be announcing who from our class will be moving on to School Fair on Monday.
