Today in Math we started to look at measuring volume. We have already learned how to measure perimeter (length) and area (length x width), now we are adding height. To measure volume students are looking at three dimensions (length x width x height). This means that the units for volume are units cubed (small three in the upper right corner). Today students used centimeter cubes to estimate and then measure the volume of rectangular prisms as well as some more unusual shapes. We will continue to work with volume tomorrow.
In Language Art today, students began typing the second draft of the stories that we have been working on in class. Students are still using an editing checklist to help them to edit their own work, but today we began using a new checklist. This one is longer than the checklist we have been using for the majority of the year:
In Art today, students continued to explore the work of Eric Carle. Today students worked at using finger paints to create different textures on paper. We will be using this painted paper in an upcoming activity.
Happy Belated Mother's Day! I hope everyone enjoyed their bath bombs. Want the recipe? Look under "Classroom Chemistry" under the Science page.
