Grade 3B Info., Updates, News

Wait until you see what we've been up to...

Today in Math we began our new unit, Measurement. Today we looked at the relationship between millimetres and centimetres. Did you know that there are 10 mm in 1 cm. That means that we need to be able to do some conversions in this unit:

1 cm = 10 mm
2 cm = 20 mm
40 cm = 400 mm
45 cm = 450 mm

It can get a little tricky when we have to work backwards though - especially when decimals are involved!

50 mm = 5 cm
40 mm = 4 cm
600 mm = 60 cm
54 mm = 5.4 cm

We'll keep practicing tomorrow. Remember, when you move from cm to mm you multiply by 10 (move decimal place one place to the right). When you move from mm to cm you divide by 10 (move decimal place one place to the left).

We started our DancePL3Y Residency today. Students will participate in DancePL3Y "Around the World" themed classes all this week as part of their dance unit in physical education class. Today was lots of fun! I can't wait to see what we learn tomorrow!

Today we also started our unit on Chemistry in Science. Ms. Proudfoot is teaching this unit! Today she taught us about what chemistry means, and about pure substances and mixtures. We learned that pure substances can be compounds (more than one element) or elements. Tomorrow we will learn more about mixtures and separating mixtures. You can follow our lessons, or even work ahead, by looking at the "Chemistry" page under Science. I'll post all of Ms. Proudfoot's lessons, just as we do when I teach a lesson.
