Please see the following email, shared earlier this evening:

Good evening,

Just a few updates on our school and classroom to share with everyone. First, picture day is coming! Lifetouch will be here to take our fall photos on Wednesday, October 2nd. Students are bringing home order forms in the student agendas today for those that wish to purchase photos. Photos can also be purchased online both before and after picture day using our Picture Day ID: QI049011Y0. Payment (ie. cash, money order, or cheque - made payable to Lifetouch Canada) can be returned to school in the student agenda along with the completed order forms. Parents/guardians purchasing photos online do not need to complete or return the order forms to school.

Second, students brought home information regarding the Grade 3 Student Learning Assessment (SLA) today. This assessment is based on literacy and numeracy outcomes from Alberta's Grade 2 program of studies and is meant to enable parents/guardians and teachers to identify student strengths and areas for growth at the beginning of the school year. The purpose is to use this information to enhance planning/instruction so as to improve student learning. The assessment consists of both digital questions (to be marked by Alberta Education) and performance tasks (to be marked locally) for both literacy and numeracy. Your student does not need to study for this assessment. Students will be completing portions of the assessment periodically until October 7th. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns in regards to any of the above,

- Ashley Barrington, Grade 3 Teacher

Please see the following email, shared earlier this evening:

Good evening,

Just a few reminders about upcoming events and activities taking place at school. First, on Thursday, September 26th, students will be taking part in the annual Terry Fox Walk. This year we are taking part in the Terry Fox Challenge #1000challengesforTerry. Our fundraising goal is $4000. If we reach our goal we will celebrate with a Dance Party in the gym! Students brought home information about the above in the student agendas earlier today. However, you can also donate (if you choose to do so) as follows:

Click this link: http://www.terryfox.ca/ChristinaGordonPublicSchool to visit our school’s fundraising page. It’s fast, easy, and donors get a receipt immediately by email. Alternately, go to terryfox.org and follow the instructions:

  1. Click “Terry Fox School Run.”
  2. Click “Donate to a Student/School.”
  3. Enter the name of our school and follow the prompts to donate.

Donations can also be made by submitting cash/cheques and entering the donor information on the pledge sheet sent home earlier today. Donations of $20 or more listed on the Terry Fox pledge sheet (with full donor name and address) are automatically receipted. Cheques can be made payable to "The Terry Fox Foundation." Please return any pledge forms and all funds by Wednesday, September 25th. Students may also choose to also set up their own fundraising page by clicking the “Donate to a Student” button. Their page will connect automatically to our school’s fundraising page and they’ll receive a link to email friends and family to help them reach their fundraising goal. As always, students and families are under no obligation to fundraise. All students will learn about and participate in the Terry Fox Walk regardless.

Second, the Fundraising Association has shared the following information in regards to the Hot Lunch Program. All orders must be made online to ensure accuracy and to make the process as easy for everyone as possible. The first hot lunch date will be October 8th. Ordering will be open from September 16th to September 27th. Any unpaid orders will be cancelled after this deadline. The Hot Lunch Program is only available for students through Grs. 1-6. They are only able to accept hot lunch order payments through PayPal (www.paypal.com). No cheque or cash payments will be accepted at any time. You may pay with a credit card as a PayPal guest (Visa, Mastercard, or Amex) or set up your own PayPal account. Please Note: should you experience any issues with your PayPal account, you must contact PayPal directly to solve the issue.

To place a hot lunch order:

  1. Go to christinagordon.hotlunches.net.
  2. Click on "Click Here to Register."
  3. Enter Access Code CGHL
  4. Complete the rest of the registration form; including your email address will ensure you receive reminder emails about hot lunch order deadlines and your student's hot lunch order for the upcoming week.
  5. Click the "Register Now" button at the bottom.
  6. Follow the instructions to add each student in your family who attends Christina Gordon (Grs. 1-6). Once your student(s) are registered click on "Orders."
  7. Proceed to order hot lunch for your student.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the Hot Lunch Program, contact Jen Hoilund (Fundraising Association President). You can also follow the Fundraising Association on Facebook at:https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=christina%20gordon%20school%20fundraising%20association&epa=SEARCH_BOX.

Thank you everyone! As always, please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns in regards to any of the above,

- Ashley Barrington, Grade 3 Teacher

Tomorrow is the big day! Here are some things you should know about tomorrow's (Thursday, September 12th) Welcome Back BBQ:

1. Weather permitting, the BBQ will be on the back tarmac/field (like the Fundraising Year End BBQ last year) beginning at 5:30 pm. If it rains, it will be in the gym.

2. There will be no basketballs allowed on the tarmac.

3. We are encouraging families to bring supplies and make a picnic out of the evening. Burgers and vegetables will be served but families should plan to bring their own beverages and blanket to sit on.

4. We will have paper plates available but in efforts to be more environmentally conscious, families are encouraged to bring their own plates.
