Good evening,

Just a few updates on upcoming events and activities taking place at school. First, Family Science Night will be this Thursday, November 22nd, from 6:30-9:00 pm. Please note the change in time (we had originally shared with families that Science Night started at 6:00 pm). Science Night is being organized by volunteers from APEGA, who will be leading students in a variety of hands-on science and engineering activities. We hope to see many of you there!

Second, as shared in a previous email, students have been working on an art card project. Students have all been given a sample card featuring their artwork with his/her name and age on the back. You are able to purchase your child's card as well as phone cases, puzzles, plaques, etc. as part of a fundraiser for our school. Art card prices range from $1.60 to $2.00/each, plaques are $25, puzzles are $15, and phone cases are $30, plus taxes and a small user fee. The minimum order that can be placed is 8 cards/multiples of 12 thereafter. To order, follow the information located inside the sample cards that students have brought home with them. The order deadline is Friday, November 23rd at midnight.

During this holiday season, Christina Gordon is hosting our 3rd Annual Angel Tree Project for the Salvation Army. This is our third year taking part in this initiative and it is FMPSD's 5th year contributing. The Salvation Army and families around Fort McMurray are very thankful for what our schools are able to do to help. Our Angel Tree is located in the atrium of the school. On this tree are Angel Tags. Each tag represents a local child in need during this season. The tag will indicate the gender, age, size, and provide some ideas for gifts that the child would like to recieve. If you would like to help out with this project, please take a tag, purchase a gift for that specific child and place it unwrapped, in a gift bag with the Angel Tag tied or taped to the front of the bag. Please bring or send the gift back to Christina Gordon and place it under the Angel Tree. Gifts will then be delivered to the Salvation Army and given to those specific children. The Angel Tree will be up and ready for our Family Science Night on November 22nd. Tags will be available until December 6th. Gift should be returned no later than December 8th. Thank you to all the students for their hard work while I was away this week and congratulations to the entire class for the the improvement in our reading for the month of October. Did you know that our class read 25 200 minutes in October? Keep it up everyone. Now, let's see if we can synergize to improve our Mathletics minutes for November.

Thank you so much to all of our student leaders in helping to prepare for our Remembrance Day Assembly today. Students in Grade 5 helped to: setup the gymnasium, hang up artwork, deliver poppies and resources to younger classrooms, sang in the choir, were student MCs, laid wreaths for our class and ECDP, helped clean up the gymnasium, etc. We never could have had such a beautiful and successful assembly without all the hard work of all of our Grade 5 students over the past few days. Students also took time today to complete Postcards for Peace, writing thank you messages that will be mailed to long term care facilities in Edmonton where Veterans of both WWII and the Korean War live. Students worked hard on these kind and thoughtful messages. Thank you so much Grade 5!

Remember, I am away Tuesday and Wednesday. I will see you on Thursday! Have a wonderful long weekend.
