In Math today, students continued to explore the relationships between larger numbers. Today, we specifically looked at multiples of 10, 100, 1000, etc. and using our place-value chart to explore these relationships. For example:
- 100 is ten times bigger than 10 - 1000 is ten times bigger than 100 - So... 1000 is a hundred times bigger than 10
We can use multiplication to verify and to double-check these relationships:
- 10 x 10 = 100 (100 is ten times bigger than 10) - 10 x 100 = 1000 (1000 is ten times bigger than 100) - 100 x 10 = 1000 (1000 is a hundred times bigger than 10)
Students should also be able to break down numbers using these relationships:
- There are 2 tens in 20 - There are 20 tens in 200 - There are 200 tens in 2000 - There are 2000 tens in 20 000
In Language Arts today, students worked first in their Writer's Notebooks. We are looking at expanding and lengthening our writing in these books - adding more details, more description. Today students once again used their 5 senses to add details and description but were challenged to write multiple sentences to describe what they would smell, taste, hear, feel, or see, instead of just writing one sentence for each sense, as some students have been previously doing. After this, students worked towards finishing any outstanding writing work: Writer's Notebook Paragraph, Verb Paragraph; typing and submitting it through Google. Students who completed their writing work practiced differentiating between verbs and nouns using a review game (see "Grammar".) We are getting ready to move onto irregular verbs in grammar.
In Social Studies today, students continued to work on their ongoing Social Studies project. Today students were asked to complete outstanding research and to begin changing these jot notes into full sentences. Sentences should be concise, accurate, and filled with important information. Remember, you still want it to sound like you! Use words your classmates would understand or use. Some groups also began to research Bodies of Water, Climate, and Natural Resources today.
