Grade 3B Info., Updates, News

Wait until you see what we've been up to...

This morning we continued to explore area and perimeter. Today we were looking at drawing rectangles that have the same perimeter but different areas. Students practiced as a class and then worked on some practice questions out of their textbook. Next week we will be drawing rectangles that have the same area but different perimeters.

We've started to prepare for Christina Gordon's first annual Innovation Day! Students are going to be using recycled or reused materials to create a toy or game. More information can be found on our Google Classroom page. Students will be finishing their planning next week. The Innovation Day is May 12th. Students are welcome to work on their projects at home, but remember, we will have the morning of May 12th to work on the projects at school. Make sure that your planning is done before next week though! This will give me time to gather any materials that students need. Students will also need some materials from home. Ask your student about what they are building and what they are planning to use.

In Science today we looked at solid-solid mixtures. Students used sieves, water, and magnets to separate different solid-solid mixtures. With sieves, students are using the property of size to separate the materials. With water, students are separating materials based on weight (or density). Finally, with magnets, students are using magnetism to help separate materials. We will continue to work on mixing and separating materials next week. You can check out the "Chemistry" page to take a sneak peak if you would like!

Today we also had Tech Buddies with Ms. Grisch's grade one class. Today we were helping them to get used to using the Chromebooks on their own. We were using different building and engineering games that are related to their current Building Things unit in Science. Thanks for being such good leaders Grade 5!

Congratulations Aayan and Teona on your Words in Motion winning poems. It was fun celebrating your success with you last night. Good luck at the Science Fair Maya and Ravnoor!
