Please see the following email, shared with parents/guardians earlier this evening:
Good evening, First, just a quick reminder that tomorrow is Picture Day. Lifetouch will be here to take our fall photos. Students already brought home order forms in the student agendas for those that wish to purchase photos. Photos can also be purchased online both before and after picture day using our Picture Day ID: QI049011Y0. Payment (ie. cash, money order, or cheque - made payable to Lifetouch Canada) can be returned to school in the student agenda along with the completed order forms. Parents/guardians purchasing photos online do not need to complete or return the order forms to school. Second, we are starting a beginner Sign Language Club at Christina Gordon. Students will be learning the basics, including: the alphabet, colours, days, months, O’Canada, numbers, and some fun signs depending on student interest in the language. Sign Language Club will run on Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15 pm in Ms. Ashton’s room (Rm. 130), or in the Learning Commons (depending on interest). This club will begin on October 9th until a date that is still being determined. Please return permission forms (in student Agendas) to Ms. Ashton or myself if your student is interested in learning American Sign Language. Third, next week will be our first Spirit Week of the year. It is being held in support of our school Breakfast Program. These weeks often prove to be win-win in building school spirit as well as stocking our Breakfast Program shelves. Participation is voluntary and you do not have to bring in a donation to participate; however, if students are interested and able, they can support the program by bringing in $2 or the suggested food item for each theme day. Again, this is not mandatory to participate. Students can participate in theme days without bringing in a donation. Fall Spirit Week runs from Monday, October 7th to Friday, October 11th. The theme days are as follows:
Finally, Coles bookstore in the Peter Pond Mall has chosen Christina Gordon Public School as the beneficiary of their Adopt-a-School program fundraiser this year. The program comes to an end on October 6th, and we want to encourage all CG families to show their support before the program ends. CG families are encouraged to support the Adopt-a-School program, which in turn supports the students at CG. There are TWO ways you can support Christina Gordon through this program:
We are very fortunate that Coles selected Christina Gordon and we strongly encourage our CG families to do what they can to support this program. By supporting this, you are supporting literacy in your student's school. So please, by October 6th, visit Coles in the Peter Pond Mall and make a donation or go online and order books for yourself and in doing so have Coles donate books to the school. As always, let me know if there are any questions or concerns in regards to any of the above. Parents/guardians purchasing photos online do not need to complete or return the order forms to school. Second, students brought home information regarding the Grade 3 Student Learning Assessment (SLA) today. This assessment is based on literacy and numeracy outcomes from Alberta's Grade 2 program of studies and is meant to enable parents/guardians and teachers to identify student strengths and areas for growth at the beginning of the school year. The purpose is to use this information to enhance planning/instruction so as to improve student learning. The assessment consists of both digital questions (to be marked by Alberta Education) and performance tasks (to be marked locally) for both literacy and numeracy. Your student does not need to study for this assessment. Students will be completing portions of the assessment periodically until October 7th. Good evening, Just a few reminders about upcoming events and activities taking place at school. First, on Thursday, September 26th, students will be taking part in the annual Terry Fox Walk. This year we are taking part in the Terry Fox Challenge #1000challengesforTerry. Our fundraising goal is $4000. If we reach our goal we will celebrate with a Dance Party in the gym! Students brought home information about the above in the student agendas earlier today. However, you can also donate (if you choose to do so) as follows: Click this link: http://www.terryfox.ca/ChristinaGordonPublicSchool to visit our school’s fundraising page. It’s fast, easy, and donors get a receipt immediately by email. Alternately, go to terryfox.org and follow the instructions:
Donations can also be made by submitting cash/cheques and entering the donor information on the pledge sheet sent home earlier today. Donations of $20 or more listed on the Terry Fox pledge sheet (with full donor name and address) are automatically receipted. Cheques can be made payable to "The Terry Fox Foundation." Please return any pledge forms and all funds by Wednesday, September 25th. Students may also choose to also set up their own fundraising page by clicking the “Donate to a Student” button. Their page will connect automatically to our school’s fundraising page and they’ll receive a link to email friends and family to help them reach their fundraising goal. As always, students and families are under no obligation to fundraise. All students will learn about and participate in the Terry Fox Walk regardless. Second, the Fundraising Association has shared the following information in regards to the Hot Lunch Program. All orders must be made online to ensure accuracy and to make the process as easy for everyone as possible. The first hot lunch date will be October 8th. Ordering will be open from September 16th to September 27th. Any unpaid orders will be cancelled after this deadline. The Hot Lunch Program is only available for students through Grs. 1-6. They are only able to accept hot lunch order payments through PayPal (www.paypal.com). No cheque or cash payments will be accepted at any time. You may pay with a credit card as a PayPal guest (Visa, Mastercard, or Amex) or set up your own PayPal account. Please Note: should you experience any issues with your PayPal account, you must contact PayPal directly to solve the issue. To place a hot lunch order:
