Grade 3B Info., Updates, News

Wait until you see what we've been up to...

Please see the following email, shared with parents/guardians earlier this evening:

Good evening,

First, just a quick reminder that tomorrow is Picture Day. Lifetouch will be here to take our fall photos. Students already brought home order forms in the student agendas for those that wish to purchase photos. Photos can also be purchased online both before and after picture day using our Picture Day ID: QI049011Y0. Payment (ie. cash, money order, or cheque - made payable to Lifetouch Canada) can be returned to school in the student agenda along with the completed order forms. Parents/guardians purchasing photos online do not need to complete or return the order forms to school.

Second, we are starting a beginner Sign Language Club at Christina Gordon. Students will be learning the basics, including: the alphabet, colours, days, months, O’Canada, numbers, and some fun signs depending on student interest in the language. Sign Language Club will run on Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15 pm in Ms. Ashton’s room (Rm. 130), or in the Learning Commons (depending on interest). This club will begin on October 9th until a date that is still being determined. Please return permission forms (in student Agendas) to Ms. Ashton or myself if your student is interested in learning American Sign Language.

Third, next week will be our first Spirit Week of the year. It is being held in support of our school Breakfast Program. These weeks often prove to be win-win in building school spirit as well as stocking our Breakfast Program shelves. Participation is voluntary and you do not have to bring in a donation to participate; however, if students are interested and able, they can support the program by bringing in $2 or the suggested food item for each theme day. Again, this is not mandatory to participate. Students can participate in theme days without bringing in a donation. Fall Spirit Week runs from Monday, October 7th to Friday, October 11th. The theme days are as follows:

  • Mismatched Monday (wear mismatched clothing or socks) - Fruit-to-Go Bars
  • Team Spirit Tuesday (wear team or CG gear) - Multigrain Cheerios
  • Wacky Hair Wednesday (rock a crazy hair style) - Apple Sauce Cups
  • Throwback Thursday (wear an outfit from the past) - Mini Wheats
  • Fri-Yay! Day (wear your comfiest clothes or pjs) - Nut Free Granola Bars

Finally, Coles bookstore in the Peter Pond Mall has chosen Christina Gordon Public School as the beneficiary of their Adopt-a-School program fundraiser this year. The program comes to an end on October 6th, and we want to encourage all CG families to show their support before the program ends. CG families are encouraged to support the Adopt-a-School program, which in turn supports the students at CG. There are TWO ways you can support Christina Gordon through this program:

  1. When you visit Coles in the Peter Pond Mall you will be asked whether you would like to support a local school, in this case, Christina Gordon. All donations you make come to the school through gift cards from Coles. To date the donations are slightly more than $1,000.
  2. Purchase a book from the online registry and Coles/Indigo will provide a second copy to the school for free. The link for the online registry for CG's book list is: https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/list/find/?ln=Gordon+Public+School&fn=Christina&id=2333892&

We are very fortunate that Coles selected Christina Gordon and we strongly encourage our CG families to do what they can to support this program. By supporting this, you are supporting literacy in your student's school. So please, by October 6th, visit Coles in the Peter Pond Mall and make a donation or go online and order books for yourself and in doing so have Coles donate books to the school.

As always, let me know if there are any questions or concerns in regards to any of the above. Thanks everyone,

- Ashley Barrington, Grade 3 Teacher
