Wait until you see what we've been up to...

Please see the following email shared earlier this evening:

Good evening,

Just a few updates on events and activities taking place at school. First, as many of you know, our class is currently working on both the "Testing Materials and Designs" and "Building With a Variety of Materials" units in Science. A large part of these units involves the creation of devices using different materials. Currently, students have both a design project (monuments/structures from either India, Peru, Ukraine, or Tunisia) as well as a building project (elastic vehicles/devices) that they have been working on in groups. We are looking for assistance in collecting some of the following items to use towards these and other projects:

  • Milk/Juice cartons (thoroughly rinsed)
  • Kleenex and shoe boxes
  • Plastic containers/bottles (ie. yogurt, drink containers - thoroughly rinsed)
  • Bottle caps
  • Newspaper/flyers
  • Toilet paper/paper towel rolls
  • Other miscellaneous recycler materials

If you are able to collect and share any of these materials with the class, it would be greatly appreciated.

Second, a reminder that this Thursday, February 13th, is our annual Valentine's Day Family Dance. Dress in red or pink and bring the whole family to a night of heart-healthy, active fun at Christina Gordon! Our Valentine's Day Family Dance will take place on Thursday, February 13th from 5:30-7:00pm. We will be accepting cash donations to our Healthy School Programming at the door. Glow sticks, water, and snacks will be on sale! This is a family event. Students are expected to be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Please bring indoor shoes, so you can safely get your dance on! Looking forward to seeing you there!

Finally, the students and I have planned our own healthy Valentine's celebration for this Friday, February 14th. This Friday we will be having a classroom pyjama day. The students are welcome to wear their favourite pyjamas as well as bring in any pillows, stuffed animals, or blankets they would like to be warm and cozy. We plan on spending part of the day building some blanket forts as part of our celebrations. Students are welcome to bring in Valentines for their classmates if they wish. However, if you intend on bringing a Valentine to school, please make sure that you bring one for each student. Attached is a list of the students in the class (we have 22 altogether) that you may use to assist you. Finally, a reminder that here at Christina Gordon we are committed to being a healthy school. As such, we follow provincial nutrition and physical activity guidelines as well as FMPSD's District Administrative Procedure 164 during organized class celebrations. Items that do not follow these guidelines cannot be shared. If anyone was intending to bring in a Valentine's Day treat to share with the class, please make sure that they are healthy or non-food related. Thank you everyone! As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns in regards to any of the above,
