Grade 3B Info., Updates, News

In Math today, the Grade 5 students are continuing to work on practicing multi-digit multiplication. Please make sure that students are consistently practicing their multiplication facts each night at home. This is a difficult concept to teach if students are still struggling with their basic facts.

In Grade 4, the students looked for further patterns in multiplication. We found:

- Multiplying by 2, 4, 6, 8 means your product is always an even number
- Multiplying by 0 means your answer is 0
- Multiplying by 5 and 10 means your product ends in a 5 or 0
- Multiplying by 1 is counting up by 1's
- Multiplying by 3 and 7 means your product follows an even, odd, even, odd, etc. pattern

We continued to use patterns as well as the other strategies we have learned to answer some multiplication questions.

Both grades will be moving on to division soon. Please make sure, again, that students are consistently practicing their multiplication facts at home.

In Science today, we did a Digital Breakout activity. Students were given the following prompt:

Welcome to the end of the world...

Ms. Barrington has gone crazy. Her eyes have turned red. There is steam coming out of ears. She is pacing frantically around the room. She says she won't let you leave. Ever. Unless...

See if you and your team have what it takes to solve the clues and break out of the locked classroom. Otherwise... you might be stuck inside with a crazy teacher... FOREVER!

Students had to solve clues about some of the Science topics we have covered so far this year. Each clue was the password to open one of the locks to escape. We really enjoyed the activity, but most of the students agreed that the clues were too easy. We'll see if our next Digital Breakout activity is a little more challenging. This activity was a great way to review some of the vocabulary and concepts we have learned.

We also finally got outside to do our snow painting today. Hooray for some warm weather! Thank you to everyone that sent supplies. It was a lot of fun.
