In Language Arts today, we started to look at poetry. Today students were allowed to use any poetic form that they know or remember from previous years to write a poem about a National Park or National Historic Site of Canada. To begin, we looked at images of Georgian Bay National Park and brainstormed descriptive and feeling words together. Then we read a poem written by a Grade 5 student, Carmel, about the Canadian Shield. Students were then able to write their own poem about the Canadian Shield or to explore another National Park or Historic Site from the other regions of Canada. Students could use any poetic form they wanted. Stay tuned for more poetry!

Our Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Lowlands group did an amazing job presenting on their region today! They included a lot of details about natural resources found in their region. They also met someone pretty famous on their trip... Justin Trudeau! Check it out below:

Hi Ms.B I can't believe I will be back soon and get to see all of you,but I was having a bit of trouble on the poetry project I want to be the writer but I don't get a few things like what I understand is what you have to look for but then it says you need an example of like 5 types of poems and do I have to make 5 poems more and then when I find like the metaphors and similes do I have to write it or just underline it.So I was just wondering when I get back you can help me a bit or just give and example I have read the slide on paper you have given me but I am still confused so just wondering.

If you choose the "To Be a Writer" side, you don't need to find examples of poetry. You follow the instructions on the right side only. These are the instructions for "To Be a Writer." You don't have to find metaphors and similes, you need to write at least one example of them in the poems you write.

Don't worry if you aren't finished or if you are confused. We will still be working on this assignment when you get back and we can go over it together.
