In Math today we started our last topic of our whole numbers unit. This topic encourages students to use the estimation strategies that we have been learning as a way to double-check their work. You can quickly use estimation to check and see if your answer in reasonable. If you estimate and your answer are not close, then you will know that you can go back and check your work over. Consider the following example:

My estimate and the answer are close. This tells me that my answer is reasonable and I likely did not make a large mistake on my addition. If my estimate was different from my answer, I would know that one of my answers was not reasonable and I would know to go back and check my work over closely for mistakes. We will continue to practice this skill tomorrow. Don't forget to start studying for our unit test! 

Our Intramurals group had a very successful first day! It was exciting to see these students leading the games and activities on their own. We have some great leaders in our class. Don't forget that tomorrow is our last Healthy Bake Sale and the day for Divsion II Intramurals.
