In Math today, students continued to review for their upcoming Whole Numbers unit test. Today students used the textbook's "Show What You Know" questions to begin to review the concepts from this unit in it's entirety. Students will be given more time to work on these questions tomorrow as well. Please make sure your student is reviewing at home. There are resources available to students on the "Whole Numbers" page under "Math." Students are also always able to use their textbook (in student's GoogleDrive accounts) or borrow a textbook from me. Mathletics is also available to all students to review.

In Language Arts today, we finished reading "The Three Little Pigs" for the third time. Today students were focused on adding expression to their reading:

It was wonderful to hear so many students working hard to use expression to help their audience to interpret the text. For example, reading quickly when the book says, "Quick as a flash..." or slowing down to indicate the ending. Tomorrow we move on to a new fairy tale... Cinderella.

Students are also currently writing letters to their pen pals in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. We are sending them a copy of "Mission Possible" to see how many acts of service they are able to perform! Not sure what "Mission Possible" is? Now that they mission is over, it is no longer a secret. Students were challenged to complete a secret act of service each day for seven days. It was amazing to hear about students taking the time to tuck in chairs for one another, to make their beds, help with chores, etc. We are actually going to keep on trying to complete acts of service. We are aiming to complete 100 different acts of service by the end of January! Keep up the great, kind, magnificent work Grade 5!

In Art today, students continued to explore Park Guell in Barcelona and the work of Antoni Gaudi. Our mosaics are really starting to take shape! See the "Art" page for more information.
