Grade 3B Info., Updates, News

Wait until you see what we've been up to...

Another busy day! We started our day with Math. Our Grade 4 students are currently reviewing for their Whole Numbers unit test on Wednesday. Today we reviewed: representing numbers (standard form, expanded form, base ten blocks), comparing and ordering numbers (less than, greater than, equal to, from greatest to least, from least to greatest), and sorting numbers (Venn diagrams and Carroll diagrams). Don't forget to keep reviewing tonight Grade 4. We will continue our review in class tomorrow.

The Grade 5 students are adding to their growing repertoire of multiplication strategies. So far in this unit we have looked at: using mental math, drawing arrays, skip counting, doubling, and halving. Today we looked at multiplying by multiples of 10. Multiplying by a multiple of 10 is made easier when you know the trick.

Today we practiced using this strategy. We will be continuing to use this strategy tomorrow.

In Social Studies we continued to work on creating the fact sheets for our regions as part of our current regions project. I have been so impressed with the level of work that the majority of students have been putting into their fact sheets. Some students have already moved on to the next part of the project, planning their train tour through their region. I can't wait to see what everyone learned on their trips.

Today Girls Inc. visited us to work with the Grade 4 and Grade 5 girls. Grade 5 students and parents were informed at the possibility of working with Girls Inc. before the break. However, they were able to send an extra facilitator than originally planned so we would love it if the Grade 4 students were able to participate as well, to help foster the growth and development of positive relationships across grade levels and across classes as much as possible.

While the girls were working with Girls Inc., the boys and I started a new program called "The Vault" through EverFi. This program is designed to teach elementary students about the basics of managing money (eg. opening a bank account, saving money, budgeting money, etc.). This program is new to me this year as well and I enjoyed learning alongside students today. We learned about wants vs. needs and strategies to budget and control spending. We will continue to work on this program in upcoming classes.
