Welcome back! Today students continued to review multiplication and division. Students are working on solving word problems involving multiplication and division. We are learning to read the problems careful so that we can correctly identify which operation to use to solve the problem. We know that when looking for the total, we use addition or multiplication. When we know the total but need to find a missing group or number, we use subtraction or division. We will continue to practice the remainder of the week. However, students have completed this unit on Multiplication and Division. We will be having a unit test next Monday. Please help students to review at home.

Students were also assigned January's writing project today. After reading, summarizing, comparing and contrasting different fractured fairy tales of Cinderella, students are now using this knowledge to write their own fractured fairy tale. Please look over the booklet sent home today carefully. Students are able to work on this at school during Language Arts choice time (ie. Silent Reading, etc.) but the majority of the work should be completed at home. This project is due on January 31st.

In Art, we have begun a study of traditional Inuit art from the Cape Dorset area of Nunavut. Today students learned about Annie Pootoogook and how she uses traditional techniques to portray more modern acts of daily life in Cape Dorset. Students are using Annie Pootoogook's work as inspirational for their own daily life project.
