Today we had our last lesson of Unit 3: Multiplication and Division. Tomorrow and Friday we will be reviewing the concepts covered in this unit. Students may be asked to bring home and completed unfinished review work in preparation for our upcoming unit test on Monday.

In Science we continued to explore electricity, reviewing the safety precautions that we can take to make sure that we are using electrical devices safely within our homes (and in our classroom). Today we connected the two terminals of a D-cell battery. Many students were expecting to be "shocked." However, as we learned today, a D-cell battery does not produce enough electricity to harm you. Instead, we feel the heat generated as the electrons move through the wire. The flow of electrons will cause friction with the materials in the wire, especially if there is no device (load) to provide resistance. The electrons flow sufficiently to heat the wires and if we are not careful to disconnect these "hot wires" we can even drain the battery of energy!
