Grade 3B Info., Updates, News

Wait until you see what we've been up to...

Please see the following email shared earlier this afternoon:

Good afternoon,

Just a few quick updates from school for this week. First, a reminder that tomorrow and Thursday, March 11th and 12th, are our Three Way Conferences. Parents/guardians should set up appointments online to meet with classroom teachers. Report cards for Grades 1-6 will be sent home at a later date (at the end of Term 2 at the end of March). At Christina Gordon Public School we believe that early communication with parents/guardians and children to discuss the child's progress is vital, which is why these meetings are set up before report cards are sent home. In doing so, parents/guardians and students are able to have a discussion prior to the report card going home. This allows changes to be made where necessary to ensure the student's success. This is a more proactive approach than simply reacting to the report card. We believe there is much benefit in both the parent/guardian and student sitting down and having these discussions, which is why we have three-way conferences intended to involve all parents/guardians, students, and teachers, instead of a traditional parent-teacher interview. Please bring your student to these three-way conferences. To book an appointment for Grades 1-6 students, please go to the school website (http://christinagordon.fmpsdschools.ca/view.php?action=signin). If you have not already created an account, you will be asked to do so at that time. Please note, ECDP and Kindergarten three-way conferences will be held on different dates.

Second, this week we have our second Scholastic Book Fair available to students and families. Students are able to visit the Book Fair from Tuesday-Thursday this week from 10:00-11:20 am as well as during our morning recess. The Book Fair will also be open during our Three Way Conferences Wednesday and Thursday night for families. Scholastic does provide a portion of the proceeds from the Book Fair to our school; it goes to our school library and literacy resources.

Third, the Christina Gordon Public School Talent Show is coming up. The Talent Show will be held on April 3rd at 1:15 pm in the school gymnasium. To prepare, auditions will be held next week as follows:
  • Monday, March 16 - Grs. 1/2
  • Tuesday, March 17 - Grs. 3/4
  • Wednesday, March 18 - Grs. 5/6
  • Thursday, March 19 - Extra Auditions
If students are planning on auditioning for the Talent Show, they need to come prepared. Students should have rehearsed. If props, songs, etc. are needed, students need to bring these things with them to their audition. Mrs. Power works very hard to see as many students as possible over a very short period of time; she does not have time to look up Music. Students can share the track with me ahead of time and I can provide it to Mrs. Power in advance of their audition.

Finally, we have noticed a significant number of fire lane violations recently that cause concern should an emergency vehicle need to access the school. Safety of our students is our number one priority. It is important to note that RMWB Bylaw 7.27 states, "Except for emergency vehicles, no person shall park or stop or permit to be parked or stopped, a vehicle on any highway, public place or private property in space posted as a fire lane." As this is a potential safety hazard, it is imperative that this law is followed at all times. Thank you for your cooperation in this very important matter.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns in regards to any of the above,

Ashley Barrington, Grade 3 Teacher
