Grade 3B Info., Updates, News

Wait until you see what we've been up to...

May 16th, 2018

5/16/2018

Please see the email below, sent to families earlier this evening.

Good afternoon,

Just a few updates and reminders. First, do not forget that tomorrow is our Swap & Shop. Students are encouraged to bring in clean, gently used items that they no longer want or need. Students can then swap these items with other students in the class. Students were encouraged to bring in 3 items, swap them for something "new," and then the remaining items will be donated to the Centre of Hope or a similar organization in our community who has need of them. Students are welcome to bring in as many items as they like. If students are unable to bring in an item but would still like to participate, they can bring in a $2 donation for the Centre of Hope in lieu of bringing in items to swap. Students can bring in clothes, toys, games, books, etc., however, please do not be hesitant to send in an item that you believe could be of use. The last time I held a Swap & Shop with a class, a parent sent in a crockpot. After making some phone calls, the soup kitchen downtown was very glad to receive it. This activity helps students to gain a real world understanding of ways that we can reduce waste and ways in which items can be reused, meeting many of our Science outcomes. It will also earn our school some extra points in the RMWB's ongoing Amazing Waste Race.

Next Wednesday, May 23rd will be Christina Gordon's 2nd Annual Multicultural Potluck. This event will be from 5:30-7:00 pm. We hope that you and your family are able to join us! There will be some entertainment throughout the evening and attendees will also be able to try different foods from some of the diverse cultures that make up our school community. Please note: Families that are planning on attending, please RSVP with the number of people who will be attending (through email or through note sent home in the Agenda) Families that are attending are asked to bring a dish that represents their culture or a family favourite or tradition (please write down any ingredients used in your dish)  To reduce waste at this event and to promote environmentally friendly practices, we are asking that families bring their own dishes and utensils to eat with Beverages will not be provided, but there are water fountains and water bottle filling stations throughout the school. We encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle Finally, the YMCA is hosting a Healthy Kids Day on Sunday, May 27th from 12:00-3:00 pm at the Westwood YMCA at 221 Tundra Drive. This event is a free family event. Families can participate in camp-oriented activities, enjoying games, sports, face-painting, exhibitors, and much more. See the attachment for more information.

Thank you everyone. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns in regards to any of the above,

- Ashley Barrington
