Today in Math we continued to practice finding the volume of rectangular prisms. Remember, we are looking at three dimensions to measure volume: length, width, and height. The easiest method to find volume is to multiply the length x width x height. However, students can break this down into easier steps as well: counting the number of cubes in each layer and adding them together, etc. We are almost done this unit, so make sure students are practicing at home. Visit the "Measurement" page to use some of the review questions that Ms. Proudfoot has put together or to play one of the measurement games. There are also extra workbooks available for students to study from.

In Science today, we took a closer look at air. Air is a mixture of gases suches as nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, etc. In order to prove that there are multiple, different gases present in air, we did the following experiment together as a class:

We are also almost finished this unit! It is recommended that students begin to review all of our notes and activities (see "Chemistry" page for all of our notes, videos, etc. from this unit).

We were fortunate enough today to be visited by and take part in a Cree dance as part of our Aboriginal Week celebrations. We will be taking part in other activities celebrating First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students and culture throughout the week.

Our PEAK students competed with and then in a bump competition against members of the RCMP today. It was a lot of fun getting to cheer on our classmates. Congratulations to Kaleb in Gr. 6 for winning the bump competition.

Okay.... I have two very important questions, 1. Can we change our idea for innovation day? 2. Do we have to make things like straws, cups and table tennis balls? :)

Yes, you can change your Innovation Day project. While we are doing our best to use as many recyclables as possible, some items such as ping pong balls, cups, etc. would be acceptable to use.
