In Math today we continued to explore rectangles with equal areas but different perimeters. Today we really focused on finding all of the rectangles for a given area. Students are able to use manipulatives (congruent square tiles) and graphing paper as needed. Students should also have begun to see some of the multiplication patterns that they can use to help them. To find the area we can just solve length x width (lxw). So, if we are given an area of 15 square units we can find multiplication facts that equal 15:

- 1 x 15 = 15
- 3 x 15 = 15

So, we could create two rectangles for this given area; one with a length of 1 and a width of 15 (or vice versa) and another with a length of 3 and a width of 5 (or vice versa). Check out your Mathletics for more practice. There are also new Measurement games being added to the "Measurement" page under "Math" tonight.

This Wednesday or Thursday (depending on weather), we will be participating in the RMWB’s Community Clean Up initiative. As a class, we will be using gloves and garbage bags provided by the RMWB to clean up any litter/trash along Brett Drive. Students will be supervised by classroom staff at all times. This is a great opportunity to give back to our community while getting outside and getting active! Please complete the permission form that went home in student agendas today and return it to class ASAP so that your student is able to attend the Community Clean Up.
