Today in Math we continued to use the Language of Probability to help us predict the results of different experiments. For example, we rolled a 6-sided die 30 times as a class. Collecting our results in a tally chart, our results were:

Using the language of probability we can describe the possible outcomes of our experiment. We are equally likely to roll a number between 1-6. In fact, we are certain to roll a number between 1-6! It is impossible that we could roll a 7. It is likely we will roll a number that is greater than 2, and so on. We will complete our Statistics and Probability unit on Thursday. This means that our Unit Test has been set! Our test will be on Monday, October 17th. Start reviewing at home now everyone! Use the resources on the "Math" page to help you.

In Language Arts today, students added a new entry to their Writer's Notebook. Our topic today was: What is one problem you see in our own country or in the world that you hope is resolved by the time you become an adult? Students were given time to think about their answer, then asked to pair up and share their answers in at least 3 different pairs. Finally, students who were comfortable shared their answers with the class. Afterwards, each student wrote their answer in detail in their Writer's Notebook. If students were struggling to find their own answer, they could write about one of the answers shared with them or the class instead. Today we also reviewed nouns. Tomorrow, we are going on a Noun Hunt!

In Health today, students completed Session #1 of their FRIENDS for Life unit. Session #1 is all about Feelings - the importance of recognizing your own and others feelings. Students will continue to discuss this topic in upcoming sessions. However, at the end of each session, students will be bringing home a Home Activity. This week, students are bringing home Home Activity #1A. It is very important that students are able to find the time to complete these home activities with their families. Sharing our learning and practicing and using the skills learned in FRIENDS for Life at school and at home is an important part of solidifying students learning and creating healthy, lifelong habits. Please take the time this week to help your student complete this activity. It will be due on Monday. Don't forget to bring your FRIENDS workbook back to school on Thursday! We will have Health on that day.
