Sorry to not have posted consistently this week! Sometimes special events like Three-Way Conferences make it more difficult. I will do better next week. Please see the following email shared by Ms. Barrington in regards to the upcoming week: Good evening, Just a few updates a reminders about activities taking place next week, to help you plan and put first things first! First, as part of the Fort McMurray School Division's partnership with the United Way, Christina Gordon Public School has been given the opportunity to assist with raising money for our community. Next week we will be hosting a Spirit Week that will encourage students who dress up to bring in $2 donations on that day. Spirit Week will run from October 28-31st. The theme days are as follows:
Second, a reminder that our annual Halloween Family Dance will take place next week. Dress up and bring the entire family to the Halloween Dance happening on Wednesday, October 30th from 5:30-7:00 pm. We will be accepting monetary donations for our Healthy School Initiatives at the door. Glow sticks, water, and snacks will be on sale in support of our Grade 6 Edmonton Trip. Our Halloween Dance also features our annual family Pumpkin Carving Contest, so don't forget to bring along your already carved pumpkin for a chance to win! Students are encouraged to bring indoor shoes with them to reduce accidents while dancing on the gymnasium floor. We do ask that students attend with their family for supervision purposes. It's bound to be a spook-tacular event and ghoulishly good time! Finally, we will be having a small classroom celebration on Thursday, October 31st. Just a reminder that at Christina Gordon Public School we are committed to being a healthy school! As a proud APPLE School, we strive to promote healthy eating, an active lifestyle and positive well being in all we do! We follow provincial nutrition and physical activity guidelines as well as FMPSD’s District Administrative Procedure 164. As such, for our classroom celebration, we will have some snack options that help encourage the healthy habits we are striving to promote. As a class we are going to synergize to make (and eat) some healthy treats! We will be making some vegetable skeletons and some orange jack o'lanterns. Students can collaborate and work together to make their ghoulish delights and then enjoy their delicious creations. If you are able to supply an ingredient for the above, please add your name to the attached document (Snack/Ingredient Sign-Up Sheet) along with the ingredient that you will supply. Any items that parents are able to send pre-sliced or cut would be greatly appreciated. Families are in no way obligated to bring ingredients. I will provide whatever else is needed so that everyone can participate. Please remember that snacks that meet the provincial guidelines and adhere to the District Administrative Procedure we follow can be shared with classmates during organized class celebrations but those that do not, cannot be. As such, please do not send in any snack items that are outside of our guidelines or they will have to be returned home. Please remember we are a nut sensitive school. We will also be working together to create our own spooky obstacle courses for a fun, collaborative, daily physical activity break. Students are welcome to wear costumes to school, however, we will ask that students remove masks in the hallways or common areas for safety purposes. We also ask that families be mindful that costumes are appropriate for a K-6 school (ie. weapons, etc.). Our annual costume parade will be held at 10:00 am. Families are welcome to attend, just be sure to sign in at the front office. Thank you everyone!
