In Math today, we had a review quiz on what we have studied in this unit so far: collecting first-hand and second-hand data, the language of probability, reading and interpreting double bar graphs, constructing double bar graphs, and using probability to describe events such as using spinners. The students did a great job! I was really proud of everyone's perseverance through this task. You can view a copy of the quiz as well as some new items that can be used to review Statistics and Probability at home on the Math page.

In Language Arts today, we reviewed what we have previously discussed about writing paragraphs. Previously, we had discussed brainstorming and writing the body sentences of a paragraph. Today we moved on to writing the topic sentence. I like to write my topic sentence after I have written the bulk of the paragraph; the body. This allows me to have a better sense of what the paragraph is about, and allows me to write a much clearer topic sentence. Remember! Topic sentences should introduce your topic. They should be interesting! Use descriptive words or change your end punctuation. You want to hook your reader! Inspire them to keep reading! Next up, concluding sentences.

In Buddies today, we worked with our ECDP buddies to create some handprint turkeys. Students had to help their buddies trace their feet and hands, as well as cutting out and gluing on handprints. Everyone worked well and was focused on their buddy. Next week we are going to work on being quieter in the hallways.

In Science today, we reviewed how to read a thermometer as well as how air moves. Remember, warm air rises and cool air falls. Now we have moved on to the water cycle. In our upcoming classes we will be looking more closely at the water cycle, different forms of precipitation, different forms of clouds, and how clouds can be used to predict the Weather. Remember that you can use the Science pages to follow our progress. Today students drew a model of the water cycle:

We drew our models on ziploc bags. Then, we added some warm water and warm air to the bags. Next we taped the bags up to the cool window. The warm water begins to evaporate, changing into water vapour. As it reaches the top of the bag and rests against the cool window, it begins to condense into tiny droplets of water that we can see - steam/fog! As more and more droplets condense, we can see the droplets form on the side of the bag as it becomes saturated with water. When these droplets become large enough, they fall back to the bottom of the bag - just like precipitation! We are going to leave our visual water cycles up for the remainder of the unit. Check out the pictures below to see if you can see the water droplets forming.
