Today in Math, the students continued to use the language of probability to predict the outcome of using different spinners. Tomorrow we move on to conducting and creating our own Probability experiments. We will be finished this unit next week, so we will have a unit test coming up. If students are interested in starting to review, they should use the resources on the "Statistics and Probability" page under Grade 5 Math or their Mathletics accounts.

Today we had a very special occasion, the one month anniversary of Christina Gordon's opening! It is exciting to think that we are the very first Grade 5 classroom that Christina Gordon has ever had. Every day we are a little part of history. As part of the assembly, we were able to share our classroom mission statement with the school.

I'm sorry that I don't have a video of us performing our new chant! I was leading so I wasn't able to take one. I'll try and get a video of us chanting our mission statement in the upcoming days. We also were able to watch the video posted above. Wow! It has been a busy first month. Thank you to all the families and parents for your support. So many of these activities would not have been possible without your help. I can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for us.

To continue our celebrations, the Division 2 students participated in some Wellness Centers this afternoon. Our students first woke up and energized their bodies with some Mindfulness activities. We practiced sitting "Still like a Frog," and used "Empower Tools" on GoNoodle to "Get Energized" and to "Release Your Inner Warrior." Next, we woke up and energized our minds with some colouring sheets. These mandalas require attention and patience to complete them. Finally, we were able to go to the gym for some Cosmic Kids Yoga. We were using my favourite - Harry Potter!

This afternoon in Health, we started our FRIENDS for Life program. This is a mandatory program for all Grade 5 students in FMPSD, alongside Canadian Mental Health Wood Buffalo. Students who were in my class last year, completed some of these activities alongside last year's Grade 5's, so they are going to be great leaders for these topics. FRIENDS for Life is meant to help students identify and monitor anxiety and stress, and to build coping skills and resilience. More information about the program can be found below.
